Product Information
TGbind Series - Dry Strength Agent
Dry strength is an inherent structural property of a paper sheet which is due primarily to the development of fiber to fiber bonds during consolidation and drying of the fiber network. Paper strength is dependent on the strength of individual fibers, the strength of interfiber bonds, the number of bonds (bonded area) and the distribution of fibers and bonds (formation). Paper strength additives may bring about improvement in one or more of the above factors, although it may be assumed that they are unlikely to affect the strength of single fibers.
Certain chemical additives, when introduced into the furnish prior to paper formation, constitute an alternative method to beating for generating paper strength, whilst maintaining other important property combinations. Dry strength additives are usually water soluble, hydrophilic natural and synthetic polymers. The commercially most important are cationic starch and acrylamide polymers.
TGbind series are polyacrylamide derivatives (PAMs). The PAMs are one of the oldest and still most commonly used additives today applied for strengthening fiber bonding in paper. Depending on molecular weight and the nature and amount of charge-bearing copolymers or substituents, they have found many and varied applications (Fig. 1). The practical molecular weight range is between 100,000 and 500,000 daltons. Anionic and cationic substitution is typically between 5 and 20 mole % with respect to the amide group.
TGchem has two dry-strength additives (TGbind series) as follow:
- TGbind-KSK : Cationic polyacrylamides
- TGbind-TAP : Anionic polyacrylamides.
- TGbind-AM : Amphoteric polyacrylamides.
Fig. 1. TGbind series, the dry-strength additives of TGchem, are mainly divided into two categories: cationic (KSK) and anionic (TAP) polyacrylamide copolymers according to the charge-carrying group.

- Company introduction
-
Taegwang Chemicals Co., Ltd. is a leader in the development and production of paper additives in Korea. Started out as Taegwang Chemicals Company in 1982 which was our first step into paper chemicals industry, we have been growing and expanding ever since. In 1987, we re-established as Taegwang Chemicals Co., Ltd. with our accumulated technological know-how and expertise to fulfill our customers' needs and meet their requirements.
Our success has been resulted from continuous and thriving effort in development and improvement of our products while accumulating new and advanced technologies. It is no wonder that we, Taegwang, are the first in Korea to develop and supply alkaline sizing agents (AKD emulsion size) which contributes cost reduction and environmental impacts as well as improvements of quality for paper industry in Korea.
Since 1987, Taegwang has been providing technical aids to paper industries, which converted for alkaline papermaking, and Taegwang is now recognized as the leader in technology for alkaline papermaking in Korea. Our major product lines are AKD SIZING AGENTS, ROSIN-BASED SIZING AGENTS, FIXING AGENTS, WET- & DRY-STRENGTH AGENTS, DYE FIXING AGENTS, RETENTION AIDS (PROGRAMS), and ANIONIC TRASH CATCHERS.
We will not stop here, but continually thrive and step forward until we become a leader in the world-wide paper chemicals industry.
