Black ginseng is a health supplement made of ginseng that was alternated between being steamed and dried 9 times.
It has been made in traditional ways just among people. In GEUMSAN County (South Korea), in particular, traditional know-how has been passed down for over 1,000 years. On January 26th 2012, meanwhile, Korean FDA has legalized the production of black ginseng, and since then, many studies have been being carried out in earnest on preparation methods and efficacies. As a result, they have improved preparation methods and proved efficacies scientifically.

Likewise, GEUMSAN County is working on leading the domestic black ginseng market and carving out the global market. Above all, it makes a constant effort to globalize ginseng. Actually, the county and PAI CHAI University undertaken a joint study with the support of Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) and the provincial government, and built up a safety production system regarding ginseng so as to monitor the whole process, planting, growing and harvesting.

Concretely, it analyzes heavy metals and pesticide residue in soil before planting ginseng seedlings, and thus grow ginseng only in soil proven safety, and so it grows our ginseng under the Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) system. Add to that, it checks about 280 types of pesticide residues in raw ginseng prior to harvest. The GAP mark is given by International Ginseng and Herb Research Institute only to ginseng from which any pesticide residues were not detected.

 We were launched to dominate the domestic market and lead the global market. We will develop various products, using black ginseng that was strictly certified for GAP by GEUMSAN County, and try to rename the brand ‘GORYEO Red Ginseng’ to ‘GORYEO Black Ginseng.’ Also, we will vitalize local economy, promoting the local industry, and help ginseng farmers enjoy a better quality of life.

We support the foundation of a corporation, GEUMSAN Black Ginseng Co., as part of our project, receiving about 3-billion won (approximately 3-million dollar) from MAFRA, the provincial government, the county government, companies and farmers. In addition, we support the development of technology to mass-product black ginseng made of GAP ginseng as well as the development of products.

Moreover, we support ginseng companies to product high-quality black ginseng of which seeds and finished products can be safe, and provide the best follow-up management. We will trust an accredited agency with examinations on harmful factors, and will go public with the results build up consumers’ trust in us.
