RS PROTECTHIP

Preventing the dislocation of the hip joint of severe cerebral palsy child patients.

RS PROTECTHIP is a newly designed hip brace to prevent progressive hip displacement in patients non-anbulatory cerebral palsy. It does this by stabilizing the hip joints, reducing hip adductor activation, and ligaments and capsules around the hip joint.

Until now, there is conflicting evidence for non-operative management to prevent hip displacement in patients with non-ambulatory cerebral palsy; therefore, no recommendations can be provided on interventions to slow the progression of hip displacement. 

However, our clinical study demonstrated that hip displacement decreased by -3.3% at 12 month follow-ups in the patients wearing our hip brace, but increased by 9.4% at 12 month follow-ups in those who did not wear brace. RS PROTECTHIP had a promising effect in preventing the progression of hip displacement. It can be an effective treatment to delay the surgical treatment period and improve the quality of life concerning hip displacement in patients with cerebral palsy, and it also can prevent complications such as spinal deformity.

RS PROTECTHIP is composed of inner pants and outer fabric bands. The outer bands consist of three elements (upper, lower, and thigh straps). The upper and lower straps compress in bottom and up sides of femur, and can lead to protect hip joints from dislocation and to prevent femoral deformity. The thigh straps were designed to prevent hip adduction. 

RS PROTECTHIP uses absorbent and breathable materials, so it is less irritating to the skin and has excellent elasticity. The inner pants and Velcro make the brace easy to put on and take off. Our device has been ergonomically designed, and can enhance convenience by posture through a circular hole design near the buttocks.
