HUGgy is an air-inflated smart vest that provides stability to people in need of care and automated assistance from caregivers. To do so, we have incorporated physiological indicators such as heart rate and skin conduction into our system to infer the user's stress and emotional state. 

Whenever the biometric signals indicate a situation where the user is in an abnormal status, HUGgy will immediately notify the caregivers and relieve the 

situation by controlling the vest through inflation along with other features. 

HUGgy is a wearable IoT product that consists of a sensor unit, an execution unit, cloud server, and an application to control the vest. 

HUGgy vest is made of a urethane tube which has been developed through extensive research on behaviors of users to be the core component that enables effective air-inflated pressure. In the process, a high frequency welding machine is used. The tube is then connected to an execution unit including an air pump motor. Simultaneously, physiological data measured by the sensor unit is transmitted to the server through LTE-Cat-M1 wireless communication. The data are utilized in predictive analyses of the emotion and stress level, including heart rate, skin conductivity and more.

The cloud server, equipped with the AI model, stores the physiological data and analyzes users' current status. The information is displayed on the HUGgy mobile application so that caregivers can monitor physiological indicators, stress and emotional status in real-time. In addition, HUGgy provides an automatic vest control function through the personalized Deep Touch Pressure-based stress controlling mechanism.  It automatically controls the HUGgy vest to apply optimal pressure on users based on their physiological and psychological status. Finally, to mitigate risks that developmentally disabled individuals disappear, HUGgy provides a GPS location tracking function that signals caregivers when users of HUGgy are away from caregivers. 

HUGgy is a vest designed to provide stability to developmentally disabled individuals in daily life. Developmentally disabled individuals would scream, have seizures attacks, and in severe cases, harm themselves due to sudden anxiety. Understanding these concerns, we have developed a solution to assist them. We launched our product through a social crowdfunding campaign that successfully raised targeted funds and donated the vest to underprivileged families to spread such a positive impact it will have. 

Our idea is based on the practice named Deep Touch Pressure(DTP). DTP is an effect that is invoked by applying appropriate pressure to the body. This pressure will stimulate the parasympathetic nerves and subsequently lead to a stable feeling. HUGgy is a vest that replicates the hug given by their parents.

To design HUGgy, we have researched dozens of institutions and hundreds of families with developmentally disabled individuals. After going through 14 modifications, we managed to develop and design an ergonomic urethane tube. Inflating air through the tube, HUGgy will apply appropriate pressure with consideration of body features. Recognized for tube’s effectiveness, a patent was issued by the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

The vest is made of antibacterial and eco-friendly fabric and it has obtained KC and Children's Product Certificate certification. In addition, the Korean National Rehabilitation Center approved HUGgy as an official assistive device for the disabled and $150 is subsidized for every purchase from the disabled. 

Furthermore, to avoid the impression of being a special product, we chose a casual design for everyday usage.

1. Unprecedented form of psychologically stabilizing solution.

: Existing weight vests also have the effect of providing stability through Deep Touch Pressure. However because of its heavy weight, pressure is simply applied in a vertical direction. This will have detrimental effects on a growing child.  On the other hand, HUGgy uses air injection to allow users to wear it at all times without putting any stress on the wearer, and applies appropriate pressure based on their body features. 

2. Automatic system based on stress.

: There are many products that monitor stress based on biometric information, but no product provides a real-time solution. HUGgy embeds a technology that can assist not only the daily life of every user who is in need of care but also caregivers who undergo stress as they need to provide care everyday. 

3. Advancement in technology for vulnerable social groups by securing biometric data.

: Biological data of the general public is already collected and utilized by many companies. Meanwhile, no healthcare company provides such high-end technology service by utilizing biometric data from vulnerable social groups. With these resources, we will be on the frontier of researching for the people who are in need of more personalized and specific care and services originating from their difficulties. As we all know, the most important asset of providing personalized AI service and care is data. Therefore these socially impactful data collected from vulnerable groups by DolbomDream will be an asset that will increase in value.
