│ Structure of the Needle Electrode Rod │
The Needled Earth Bar of Eunsan IM is a kind of surge suppressor (TVSS, Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor), in principle, to be laid underground, and features in low price compared to the superior performance, durability and effectiveness. It can be installed in a variety of applications if underground burial is not available. It may be utilized in any system of electrical / electronic / lightning protection where voltage surge matters.
There are many similar points with a conventional ground rod in a point of being buried underground however it is quite different in regards of characteristics, purposes, and etc.
It is called “Needle Electrode Rod” as the ‘needle electrode’ is attached to the 'bar'. Its structure is shown in Figure 1.
│ How it works │
The principle of operation is that the surge soil corona discharge occurs at low voltage, at an early stage, and a big scale due to the needle electrode. A strong electric field is formed in the end portion of the needle electrode and heat is generated by the insulation destruction of the soil. This is the well-known soil corona discharge phenomenon. . The corona discharge is generated at the rod-end of the normal rods, however it will occur on all end of needle breakdown in the needle-like, these effects occur only in one of these end of rod corona discharge effect.
│ Applications │
It is undesirable to hire the needle electrode rod to secure normal ground resistance as it is expensive compared with the ordinary rod. For the conventional ground resistance, it is necessary to have copper wire and grounding resistance decreaser to be buried underground with various types including the normal rods, underground earthed wire or mesh.
