Silica Fume

INTRODUCTION

Silica fume, also known as microsilica or condensed silica fume, is very fine non-crystalline silica which is the by-product of producing elemental silicon or alloys containing silicon in electric furnaces. It is a highly reactive material used to enhance the properties of concrete.

Chemical contributions—Because of its very high amorphous silicon dioxide content, silica fume is a very reactive pozzolanic material in concrete.

Physical contributions—The micro-filler effect of silica fume would bring about significant improvements in the nature of the concrete.
