It is appropriate initial therapy when you suspect
B-lactamase-producing pathogens.

- Indications

1.Skin and skin structure infections:
-Diabetic foot infections (non-limb-or life-threatening)
-Extremity wounds accompanied by fever and sepsis
-Infected human bites
2.Intra-abdominal infections:
-Peritonitis secondary to ruptured appendix, bowel perforation
or ruptured diverticula (for mild or moderate disease)
-Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis
3.Bone and joint infections:
-Contiguous osteomyelitis with severe vascular insufficiency in
hospitalized patients with neurologic deficit and decubiti,
atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease, or diabetes with neuropathy
4.Urinary tract infections:
-Complicated urinary tract infection
5.Septicemia: 

-Postoperative infections with sepsis

1. Over 127 million doses, 21 years of clinical use
2. Safety demonstrated in children as young as 3 months
3. Indicated daily dosage contains 1.3g sodium(q6h), which falls within
American Heart Association guidelines for sodium intake of 2.4g/day
4. No dosage adjustments in patients with hepatic insufficiency alone
