Product Information

Hijiki, a kind of seaweed, is nicknamed the elixir plant of the sea.
The nickname is fully justified by the medicinal effect of this seaweed.
It contains 98 kinds of minerals and the zinc content is 20 times as high as that of freshwater eel. Moreover, hijiki has 15 times as much calcium and 550 times as much iron as milk. The Japanese people eat hijiki in various ways: with rice, as a side dish, and as an accompaniment to alcoholic drinks.

For this reason, more than 4,000 tons of hijiki are consumed in Japan every year. These days, Korean hijiki is most popular in the Japanese market. Most Korean hijiki is produced in the sea to the south of the Korean Peninsula, which is famous for the clean environment and ideal temperatures for hijiki growing. That is why Korean hijiki scores high abroad.

In fact, it is considered the world’' best in all its aspects - the chewy taste as well as the delicious and deep sea scent. Over 90 percent of the hijiki produced in Korea is consumed in Japan.

Company introduction

Ohta Oil mill Co., Ltd., was founded in 1902, settled in the clean sea Wando of Korea, as the manufacturing plant in 2005.
Ohta Foods Korea Co., Ltd. is one of the Korean hijikia processing companies.
Its main investor is Ohta Oilmill Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese company that wanted to import Korean hijiki without interruptions.

Ohta Foods Korea Co., Ltd. is exporting 250tons of Korean hijiki annually to its mother company and several other Japanese buyers.

The safety of its product is one of the virtues of Ohta Foods Korea Co., Ltd.
Processing of the seaweed is achieved through ten stages at a factory equipped with ISO9001 and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) certified facilities. Most of these stages are designed to remove all the dirt that usually sticks to the fruit on the stem of the seaweed. In other words, all the stages except washing, steaming, drying, and weighing involve sorting.

What's more, the headquarters of the company regularly dispatches the people who provide the factory personnel with  advice on how to further improve the sanitary system.
