The a2z infrastructure solution is an infrastructure solution that enables automonous vehicles to secure stability of autonomous veheicles and improve mobility services through C-ITS, which communicates in two directions between vehicles and road facilities, away from the existing ITS that transmits information in one direction by linking data in real time between the LIDAR infrastructure system and autonomous vehicle.
The LIDAR infrastructure system consists of one LIDAR for measuring vehicle object detection data, object location and speed detection, traffic condition awareness controller for precision map convergence, and a network for system output transmission. And it provides next-generation transportation services for autonomous cars, general cars, and pedestrians by installing one LIDAR sensor at intersections and traffic congestion areas, it recognizes dynamic and static objects in 360-degree directions and in all directions of the intersection in real time up to a range of up to 200m, and by combining the recognized data (object recognition information, traffic light prediction information, law violation vehicle information, pedestrian recognition information, traffic conditions, intersection safety information, weather information, emergency situation, etc.) with a precision map.
The "A2Z LIDAR Infrastructure System" is composed of a single LIDAR sensor for perception and a computer with software that combines the perceived information with precise maps. It is simple in design, more efficient, and requires less maintenance compared to camera or radar-based equipment that requires multiple installations. Additionally, the LIDAR sensor's characteristics allow it to accurately perceive situations regardless of traffic congestion or weather conditions, which has led to the system receiving the "top-level" certification in terms of sudden situation detection system performance by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, designated as the performance evaluation agency for intelligent transportation systems by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
The system is based on the autonomous driving technology that is recognized as 13th in the world, providing information in the same format as that perceived by sensors in autonomous vehicles. It has been validated as an infrastructure technology capable of overcoming limitations faced by autonomous vehicles, making it an essential component of the largest autonomous driving experiment city, K-City, in South Korea. Furthermore, the system has been awarded a contract for a validation project to be installed on all public roads in Singapore as part of the "Smart Mobility 2030" initiative currently being promoted by the Singaporean government.
In addition, this system received an innovation award at the 2022 Korea Electronics Show and has already generated approximately one million dollars in revenue in Korea. It is very unusual for a technology in the autonomous driving industry to generate revenue, and we believe this has contributed to our high global evaluation. In February 2023, our company received an official evaluation from Guidehouse, the largest global consulting firm in the United States, stating that our autonomous driving technology ranks 13th in the world. In the same evaluation, Tesla, a promising player in the US autonomous driving industry, was ranked 16th, indicating how high we believe our technological superiority is.
The "a2z LiDAR infrastructure system" can be installed at a single intersection by utilizing the 360-degree detection feature of LiDAR, whereas Smart Cameras (CCTV) and Smart Radars, the representatives of smart infrastructure technology, require four installations at a four-way intersection due to the characteristics of sensors that detect only one direction. This means that the number of devices can be reduced by 75%. The South Korean government is actively considering installing this system, which can reduce installation costs by 1/4 compared to installing Smart Cameras (CCTV) or Smart Radars in the 752 school zones in the city of "Daegu," the fifth-largest city in South Korea.
Moreover, the reduced number of devices not only saves installation costs but also reduces management costs by decreasing the amount of maintenance required for environmental factors such as heavy rain, bird droppings, and other pollutants. In addition, because the number of devices is small, existing traffic facilities such as traffic signals can be used for power, eliminating the need for separate power connections or batteries. Therefore, this technology is considered to have high economic benefits in terms of power consumption and energy efficiency. Based on this technology, our company is undergoing ISO 14001 certification to be evaluated as an eco-friendly company.
