CollaStat is an absorbable hemostatic agent intended for application to surgical bleeding sites. When CollaStat is applied to a bleeding site, the collagen porous structure mechanically absorbs blood and coagulates.
The collagen that absorbed blood swells to produce a tamponade effect. The thrombin provides an ancillary function in supporting the hemostatic effects of the collagen and the mannitol is used for stabilizing proteins(collagen, thrombin).
