Anxious to steal a piece of the performance market, the new Maverick 1000R Turbo steals the horsepower king title from rival brands offering 121 ponies at the crankshaft.

Seated inside the cab the driver is greeted with an intelligently designed and form fitting cockpit. The driver’s bucket seat fits properly and offers an easy-to-use automotive-style adjustment lever to move the seat fore or aft. The position of the steering wheel can also be tilted up or down. Both adjustments offer a wide range making it easier to get comfortable behind the wheel. Instead of doors the Maverick uses an easy-to-latch net as well as a conventional three-point seat belt to keep extremities inside the cab. Instrumentation is clean and legible day or night. Another plus is the intensity of the head lamps which do a marvelous job of illuminating the scenery on a dark night.

The Maverick provides pleasing ride quality over rough terrain even a moderate pace though it does exhibit a bit of body roll during quick turning maneuvers. It’s not enough to limit the fun and serves more as a warning before things get too hairy and wheels lift off the ground. Blazing across sand whoops demonstrate that the car moves around a little more than other machines in its class and it seems as if engineers sacrificed a degree of hard-core performance for comfort. But for recreational driving it’s a fair compromise.
