Background

The outermost layer of earth contains organic materials that plants use to grow.
Among organic materials, humus, which is resulted from
microbial decomposition and synthesis, is critical for plant growth
(Optimal
humus level in forest region is 3~5%, but the overall Korean soil contains much
less
humus)

The use of chemical fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potassium)
acidify soils (Korea Fertilizer Association
1997)
To
make up for the shortage of organic compounds in soil and prevent soil
acidification, the supply of organic materials is
necessary.

Factors influencing
quality

Temperature : The heat released by the microbial fermentation (55 ~ 60℃) is
enough to eliminate
pathogens
*
Oxygen : Aerobic metabolism of microorganisms, temperature control, moisture and
gas removal.
* PH : Suitable for microbial growth = PH 5.5 ~ 5.8
* Moisture : Moisture
of 50% - 60% (A key element for decomposition rate, unpleasant odor prevention
and efficiency in feed
production).
* Carbon/nitrogen rate (C/N) : Proper initial carbon/nitrogen rate
is 26 - 35% (boost microbial expansion and accelerate the process).
