Seventy percent of the body and eighty percent of body fluids consist of water.
Water plays an important role to stay our healthy and improve as well for your skin and hair. Tap water is treated with chlorine but on the way the treatment by chlorine, some trihalomethane and chloroform which are cancerogenic, can be developed.
That’s why people use water purifiers for their drinking water and any purified water. 
However people do not consider the importance for shower water and wash up water.

Applications

KDF filters are used most often in conjunction with an activated carbon filter.
They prolong the life and increase the effectiveness of carbon filters by reducing chlorine build-up. They also supplement the activated carbon filters by removing heavy metals, something that carbon-based filters are not very effective at removing.

KDF is also frequently found in home showerhead filters because of its effectiveness at higher operating temperatures and flow rates.

What Contaminants Does KDF Remove?

KDF process media will reduce or remove chlorine, iron, hydrogen sulfide, lead, mercury, magnesium, and chromium, and may inhibit the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi. Redox media remove up to 98% of water-soluble cations (positively-charged ions) of lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. While removal rates depend on a number of factors, more than 98% of chlorine is removed by KDF in home water treatment systems (90% in shower water filters due to high flow rate).

How are chlorine, Iron, hydrogen sulfide and heavy metals removed?
* Chlorine removal KDF 55 medium can remove over 99% of free chlorine by electrochemically reducing dissolved chlorine gas to water-soluble chloride ions.
For chlorine removal in point-of use applications, KDF media is incorporated in to shower filters and into cartridge at the tap.
* Iron removal KDF process media removal iron from water, either alone or in combination with other treatment technologies used at the point-of-entry. KDF process media act as catalysts to change soluble ferrous cations into insoluble ferric hydroxide, which is easily removed by regular backwashing. KDF 85 medium removes more than 90% of iron from groundwater supplies.
* Hydrogen sulfide removal KDF 85 medium eliminates H2S by converting the hydrogen sulfide gas to insoluble sulfide, an inert, harmless precipitant. When hydrogen sulfide contaminated water enters the KDF filter, the copper in the KDF media loses an electron and the sulfur gains an electron and copper sulfide and water are formed. The copper sulfide is insoluble in water and can be backwashed off the KDF filter media. Periodic backwashing eliminates accumulations of the precipitant from the media bed.
* Heavy metals removal
KDF 55, KDF 85 AND KDF-C media can remove up to 98% of water-soluble cations(positively-charged ions) of lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. When filtered through KDF media, soluble lead cations are reduced to insoluble lead atoms, which are electroplated onto the surface of the media. Other heavy metals bond to the media and may be recovered when the exhausted media pass through a copper smelter.

* best when combined with other filtration technologies for full spectrum protection.

Typical Maintenance Requirements
* KDF filters require little or no maintenance. It is recommended that they be replaced approximately every 8 months to 1 year, depending on the application. To reduce fouling and pre-mature expiry of your KDF filter, if your water supply has a high sediment content / turbidity, you should consider a sediment pre-filter(whole-house or point of use).
